The grape growing season of 2010 was one for the record books in Perry County, Missouri. The warm, dry fall produced an environment where certain grapes were able to hang on the vines much longer than usual. Such was the case for the Chambourcin grape. This grape is typically harvested late August to early September in this region. In 2010, the Chambourcin grapes in the Fusion Wines vineyards were left to hang on the vine until November 7th, resulting in the only known Late Harvest Chambourcin on the market today in the United States! Roy Paris, winemaker at Vance Vineyards & Winery in Fredericktown, Missouri, worked closely with the Fusion Wines vineyard team during the 2010 growing season and suggested leaving the grapes hang longer to try to produce more concentrated flavors. Well, much to their surprise, the weather cooperated fully with them that fall. The grapes reached a whopping 33° Brix, with a complex array of flavors and aromas. After harvest, the grapes were taken to Roy where he produced this one-of-a-kind wine. The Late Harvest Chambourcin showcases an ever evolving palate. Aromas of peaches, apricots, raspberries and subtle cherry develop into luxurious vanilla and caramel. Both Fusion Wines and Vance Vineyards & Winery were delighted with the results and decided to jointly release the wine to highlight the close relationship between grape grower and winemaker. This wine will be celebrated and introduced to the public on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Vance Vineyards & Winery in Fredericktown, MO. Stop by between 11 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. to taste this remarkable wine. This wine will be available through Vance Vineyards & Winery and Fusion Wines. |
